There is no doubt thatcontent marketing is THE buzz in marketing at the moment. With phrases like “content is King” being bandied about (we even said it a couple of weeks ago!) it’s hard to ignore the massive shift towards b2b content marketing.
So you’ve generated your content: how do you get it to your audience? Lots of b2b companies are having great cut-through with social channels, but submitting articles to Google News is on our radar and we’re finding it a great tool for amplifying content.
What is Google News?
For anyone that hasn’t jumped on Google News – you should! Google news is a computer-generated news site that aggregates headlines from more than 4,500 English-language news sources worldwide. It cleverly groups similar stories together and displays them according to each reader's personalized interests.
Traditionally, automated news readers first pick a publication and then look for headlines that interest them. Google News shakes that up by offering links to several articles on every story. That way, readers can first decide what subject interests them and then select which publisher’’ accounts of each story they want to read. When readers click on the headline that interests them they land directly on the site that published the story.
Articles are selected and ranked by computers (no more long lunches with journalists!) that evaluate, among other things, how often and on what sites a story appears online. As a result, stories are sorted without bias and readers are able to choose from a wide variety of perspectives on any given story.
Optimising your site for Google News
To appear on Google News, you must first submit your site to Google for inclusion. You need to work with your webmaster to get a handle on all the technical requirements before submission as well as your content editors to make sure you meet the editorial guidelines of Google.
There are three main guidelines for Google News:
Once you are satisfied that your site meets all of Google’s requirements, you simply submit it to Google. Once your stories start appearing on Google News, you will widen your audience and gain valuable exposure for your content as well as your brand.
